- The Queer Latina/o Artists Coalition (QueLACo) was formed in 1998. It grew out of an ad hoc committee that produced various components of the Annual Visual Art Exhibit and Performing Show for Gay/Lesbian Latinas/os in San Francisco. The committee was made up of individuals and members of such organizations as AGUILAS, ELLAS en Accion, and LLEGO California. The Annual Festival has grown rapidly and many more artists are participating every year. As part of the Festival, QueLACo is not only producing the Visual Art Exhibit, and a Variety Show, but is also promoting other art venues, such as a poetry/prose reading, video/film showings of local filmmakers, theatrical and performance art, panel discussions of various topics, and drag king and queen contests. The organization initially called for participation from local artists from the San Francisco Bay Area, but has since expanded its limits, welcoming artists from all over the State of California. QueLACo also co-produces many events with other organizations and individual artists to bring a larger sense of support throughout our growing community.
